July 4th marks the 41st anniversary of the enactment of the Freedom of Information Act, one of the most significant laws ever passed by the US Congress. It was a 12-year battle waged by a stubborn congressman from Calif. named John Moss, who took on two administrations in the grip of Cold War fever to gain Americans the right to access information about the activities of their government.
